Hello, my name is Alysia. Nice to meet you.
I was born and raised in Port Alberni, a very small town on the west coast of Vancouver Island, which has little to nothing going for it in regards to great culinary experiences. Sorry Port Alberni. In August 2008, at the age of 19, my boyfriend Corey and I moved to Courtenay. Another small town on the opposite coast of the island to attend college, Corey for Photography and I studied Fine Arts and Design. We were on our own for the first time, and figured out quickly a handful of go-to recipes for easy student meals. Nothing too adventurous, mostly versions of meals our parents cooked for us. But we thought we were becoming quite savvy chefs. Again, Courtenay didn’t have much to offer in the way of food inspiration, and really, who has time when you have 4-7 projects on the go at once. Every night we didn’t end up eating boxed Mac & Cheese was a good night!
In June 2010 we moved to the big city, Vancouver, and my taste-buds rejoiced. The city is filled with amazing restaurants, cafes, bakeries and of course, my favourite place in the city, Granville Island Market. My new proximity to all this great foodstuffs, really sparked a passion for cooking.
I decided to create this blog to record my adventures in home cooking, for myself. And to share my favourite recipes, because I believe food is best when shared … and made FROM SCRATCH.
